Race #2 in the championship: The Norwegian Bike Festival, 14-16 june 2019.

It had been raining for a while near Oslo, but the weather predictions looked good. Racing was only once interrupted by rain but the track crew did a great job and a full drag race on the fast Norwegian drag strip was concluded on Saturday evening.

Martin Buehler and his wife Luchia from Switserland were first arrive, and they were helped for the occasion by Bernd Foit. Martin had swapped the blower for a turbo last winter and made many parts for the "Godden"-based engine, so expectations were high. The rest of the teams arrived soon, except from team Big Dog of Danish Jorgen Godske who spend more time on the border then on the road.

Mats Larsson was also late, and could only race on Saturday, but his team had already taken the turbo-bike to the track.
The organiser wanted an "all-in race" so everybody who qualified could at least make one pass during the race, and the topgas riders agreed. Nineteen (19!!!) topgas bikes passed the technical inspection.

Jens Peter Hoffmeister (above) was all by himself. He was first in line in the first round, but was told to shut it off, because of some more track prep in the left lane. Then Torbjörn Ström raced in the right lane, and set 8.37, that tuned out to be his best qualification pass.

Ström eventually dropped to place #6 oin the last qualification list. Herman Jolink opened with a poor 9.3 while Anders Jensen (picture below) did a great new personal best of 8.14 seconds.

Next pair the two Swiss teams.  In left lane Martin Buehler did his check-out pass, and in the other lane Olaf Menzi (picture below) did 7.57, the quickest time of the first round.

Andreas Herr did a new personal best of 8.88, his first "eight"! The Roadbreakers were very happy with the result.

Next the two V-rod destroyers were on track, but both below their usual level. Then Frederik Schack, first time out on his usual bike, Jesper Thiel's old Iron Bike.

Frederik made a half pass, then got close to the center line, and shut it off.
In the other lane Frank Aaslund did 8.7 and passed Herr in the list. Then Jan Malmberg got in between them with a low 8.8.

Vidar Ravnsborg from Norway (above) tried to make a burnout, then went back to the pits.
Last pair of the first round was Lymant against Jens Peter Hoffmeister. Jens Peter did 10.6 but unfortunately damaged his bike beyond quick repair, and was out for the rest of the race, but still enjoyed himself all weekend.

Not a good opening pass for Lymant, but much to come from him in the next round. Then Carsten "Meckie Hormann" tried, but was told to shut it off  after the burn outbecause of push rod problems. So he went back to the pits without making a pass.

Then came the rain but in the late afternoon it had cleared up, and two more rounds of qualifications were held that day.

Jan Malmberg (above) lined up against Martin Buehler, and both improved, Malmberg passed Aaslund in the list, Buehler also in the "eights".

Schleichert and Jolink (above) improved, Herman now quicker then Malberg. No improvement for Aaslund, but Jaakko Miettinen did 9.7 on the Destroyer. Ström did not improve his time, and neither did Jensen. Schack's second pass of the day was in 7.66 and he made a big jump in the list.

Then Jorgen Godske (above) and Peter Niklas (below) for their first pass of the day.

Good for the last two places on the list. Then fireworks by Joerg Lymant, 7.45 seconds, top qualifier  now, and coming close to the European STTG record.

The last round of that day was in the early evening. Christian Bruhn made a burn out with the Honda, but that was all we got to see from him.

Schleichert down to a 10.09 on the Destroyer. Then a great new personal best time for Martin Buehler. 8.15 seconds.

Well done Martin, Lu and Bernd!
Also a personal best for Jensen in the other lane. Again. Now an 8.12. So just a little quicker the Buehler, and good for place #4 in the list, that day. Jolink and Ström could not improve and Frank Aaslund's engine caught fire after his burn out.

Frederik Schack passed Menzi in the list, he moved up to second place after doing 7.56.

"Meckie" Hormann went from a 10.6 to a 10.4 and stayed at place # 13.

Big problems for Olaf Menzi (above), big damage to his engine in the third round. Then Lymant tried again, but could not improve.

Andreas Herr had damaged a rocker arm, and was helped by two Norwegian Top Fuel Bike mechanics to repair it. Too bad they later also found a leaking cylinder.

Next morning the sun was shining and Herman Jolink was first in line for the 4th round of qualifications, and produced a nice and straight 8.5 seconds pass. By the time Mats Larsson started racing, a few bikes were already out of the race.

Mats qualified as # 16, but his chances were already much higher. Good improvement for Casten Horrmann, and he passed the two destroyers on the list. Schleichert did his best time of the weekend, 9.9 seconds.
Frederik Schack almost did Lymant's best time, then Lymant answered with 7.383 and broke the European Record, he already did a run of 7.452, a legal back up within 1%., so it's official. Well done Joerg and Michael!

Malmberg passed Jolink on the list in the last qualification round, and Jaakko passed "Meckie" and went 9.6. Mats Larsson moved up one place in the list, Mats went quicker then Gotske.

First round of eliminations:  A great run of 7.39 by Joerg Lymant, a sharper back-up to his fresh European Record. Aaslund, Herr, Buehler and Hoffmeister did not show up.
Ström did 8.4 and eliminated Schleichert, who did his best run of the weekend, 10.02 seconds. Peter Niklas staged against Frederik Schack, but was not able to complete his pass. Schack did 7.51 with a relatively low speed. Another quick run by Jensen, 8.2 seconds, more then enough to send Mats Larsson home.

A personal best of 9.2 for Meckie Hormann, with the better reaction and therefor beating Janne Malmberg.
Olaf Menzi and Jorgen Gotske were saupposed to race each other, did not show up.

Then a new personal best for Jaakko Miettinen (above). Jaakko did 9.59 on the V-rod Destroyer, no shame he was beaten by Herman Jolink, who was more the a second quicker.

Many bye-runs in the second round, Lymant 7.4, Ström 8.4, Schack 7.4, then Jensen beat Meckie in 8.3 seconds.

And Jolink's bye-run was a copycat version of the one he did in the previous round.

Quarter finals: Similar times for Lymant and Ström again, but now Ström was the victim. Frederik Schack eliminated his countryman Anders Jensen, 7.5 to Jensen's 8.5.  Jolink slightly slowed down.

A bye-run for Lymant in the semi finals, 7.9, then Herman Jolink up against Frederik Schack, who is 40 years younger then Herman.

Jolink reacted slightly better and did his best run of the weekend, but his 8.49 was more the a second to slow for Frederik, who advanced to the finals, no problem.

Lymant gambled in the finals, and drew a red light, he left 0.004 seconds too early, and did 7.54. Schack beat his time, but just barely. 7.474
Congratulations to both finalists.

Frederik Schack (above right) won the race, but Champion Joerg Lymant (center) grabbed the Euroserie record on the 1/4 mile, qualified #1 and set the highest speed of the weekend. So Joerg scored a little bit more points. Frederik Schack is now the #2 and Herman Jolink jumped to place #3 in the championship.
Many thanks to Björn, Lin, and the many others at Gardermoen Raceway. We had a great time!

Next Race: Mantorp Drag Revival, Mantorp park, Sweden. 25-28 July
