Congratulations to our 2013 and 2014 champion:

Frederik Kirkhoff Schack from Denmark.

welcome racefans

Race #7 in the 2014 championship: Drag day # 36, 13-14 September Hoskovice, Czech rep. An event for all ages.

Just like last year, our Finals were held at the small airfield near Prague. Ninetopgas riders were on the entree list and eight of them were present Weather predictions looked good, a few days before the race, but that turned out to be unreliable. But at least it was dry on friday afternoon, so the track was open for testing late in the afternoon, and Herman Jolink from Holland used it to blast his Ducati down the track two times, while Jesse and Birch from Denmark were exposed to many decibels while unloading their truck.

Team Schack arrived later that evening. Just like last year, Frederik's dad Rene had brought his bike to compete in the Pro-street class. Frederik is already the 2014 topgas champion, but never won a race at Hoskovice, while his father did. Pro Street was the first class to run, here's Rene passing the christmas tree:

Team Dragstrip Sideburns of Peter Niklas and Christian Bruhn from Germany was camping in the back of the pits but they were the first in the line-up. Just Like Schack, the team had attended all seven races this season. Bruhn had solved many problems and got his turbocharged Honda running well and reliable this season. And after six races, he's in the second place in the championship, slightly ahead of Herman Jolink.

Bruhn's first pass was in 8.55 seconds, a good start of the event and close to his personal best of 8.47 sec he did at Hockenheim in August.

Everybody in the pits had been talking about the amazing stunt of Papa Fill at Santa Pod last week untill Peter Niklas made his first pass.

Wheelspin after a few meters, then the Ducati fishtailed heavily and it threw Peter off.

Niklas landed on top of his bike, got up unharmed and shut the engine off. Not much damage to the bike, team Sideburns got it race ready before the second round.

Then came champion Schack, and shot off with a great 60-foot time of 1.18 sec. But then had to work hard to keep going straight and went off throttle early.

Then came Lars Birch Andersen.

It was Jesse and Birch's third visit to the Czech republic in their "rookie" year in the class.

A great 60-foot time for "German Undertaker" Albers, but not a perfect run.

A great pass by Herman Jolink on his "Star Twin" Ducati.

Good for palace #2 so far, and , and quicker then Christian Bruhn.

Frank Heitmann tried the right lane.

A low 1/8 mile speed for him, but he picked up on the second half of the track, so not a bad result in the tricky lane.

Mats Larsson's team had driven their big old touringcar for many miles, and they became the first team from Sweden team to ever set foot on the track.

But riding a race bike there for just a quarter mile seemed much more difficult for them. Problems getting the horses from the engine to the rear, and they broke a brand new chain during the burnout of the second round.

Lars Birch improved in round two.

Frederick Schack did a great pass in the left lane: 7.994 seconds.

A more carefull start by Peter Niklas and he got on the list.

Then a nice pass by Bruhn, except for the 60-foot.

Herman Jolink was the only rider to benefit in round three after he ruined his second attempt by getting into the other lane.

He widened the gap with Bruhn and stayed in the second place.

A few raindrops came down just before round four, so racing was stopped for a while, but we got lucky. Bruhn was first in line for the last chance of the day. All of his passes were above 250 KmH.

Christians last run was his fastest, 255 Kmh, but he did his worst 60-foot (1.6 sec) so it did not result in a quicker time.

Frederik launched hard in the last round, but shredded the gearbox soon after this picture was taken.

Mechanic Johan Jensen spend the evening and part of the night wrenching, but he got it replaced and working before he went to sleep.

Cord Albers had missed round tree and had improvised the repair of a jet.

"Maybe not 100% but it works" was his reaction after putting 8.59 on the clock in the right lane.

The last round was used well by Frank Heitmann.

Frank did 8.545 after some excelent steering in the right lane and moved up to place #3 passing Christian Bruhn in the list.

Mats Larsson was the last to run on saturday while everybody cheered for him. After a few attempts and restarts, he finaly made it till the end, and was even slightly quicker then Lars Birch.

Many valuable data were gathered in the logger, and Mats and his team spent the evening analysing them, then went to enjoy themselves in the small "biergarten" at the back of the pits.

Much rain on sunday morning and more predicted for the afternoon. So the fifth qualification round was cancelled and a flowchart was published.

All results can be seen here...

Bruhn and Jolink were both candidates for place #2 in the championship, with Bruhn slightly in the lead. Albers could play a big role in the outcome, he's got a quick bike and a sharp reaction, while Bruhn had the benefit of the lane choice. It looks like Herman had better chances to advance further then Christian. But we'll never know what the outcome would have been.

The crew managed to get the track dried up, Mr Hutla had set up the timing equipment, and the Pro-street bikes got the call to get into the line-up.

But then it rained again, and soon after that, the race was declaired officially over.

Based on the qualification results, the prize giving ceremony was held.

Frank Heitmann's son Nico competed in the 600cc National Dragster class and was quickest of four riders every round, and improved twice. Below a picture of Nico in round four against Michael Ponca.

He also became the 2014 champion of the Czech drag serie in class. Well done Nico!

In the ongoing battle for the title of the "quickest Belgian on two wheels", Luc Raeymakers had repaired the damage after Hockenheim and had fitted a different gearbox and entered the Competition Bike class.

It took him two rounds to set it up, then he got the bike running quicker then the other funnybikes in his class. He did a new personal best of 8.17 in round four and is just 0.02 seconds behind Marc van den Boer now.

Raeymakers was quickest of the class, beating Andre Bartok (left) and Pavel Bayer.

In the Superstreet class Tomas Cizek was top qualifier until Sandro Haldimann from Switserland did a new personal best and took the lead in round four.

Not much opposition for Zbynek Kostelka this time, he became the Czech Moditwin campion with his Turbo-Buell.

Junior Dragbike was won by Adam Rylich, pictured at the top of the page.

Schack's dad Rene made second place in Pro-street, Pavel Werdan was a little better.

And the Teenage Dragbike class was won by Andrea Binova.

All race results are here...

The podium of the European 2014 championship looks like this:

Frederik Schack from Denmark champion again. Christian Bruhn was rewarded for his hard work on the bike and his motivation at the track by the award for second place. And veteran Herman Jolink made place #3. On the left side in the background is Peter Niklas who ended on place #4 in the championship. Peter picked up most of his points while using Bruhn's Ducati. On place #5 is Cord Albers who attended just a few races, but its motivated to race much more next season. And Lars Birch Andersen became the #6. More details in the pointlist.

Many thanks to Yvona and her team Knebl Drag Promotion. See you next year!
