Race #6: August 30-31, Mosten Race day Denmark.
Twenty years of Rock 'n Race at Mosten MC were celebrated by getting the Leningrad Cowboys over from Finland to play live on stage on thursday evening.
And 13 supertwin topgas racers racers showed up for the 1/8 mile sprint race, the biggest field so far this year.
Herman Jolink from Holland arrived alone at the track, just like last time we raced in Denmark. But he got help at the start line from another cowboy from Finland, a mechanic of Tront Hoyberget's team.
Herman chases Fredrick Schack from Denmark in the championship and is the most consistent in our class this year.
Fredrick's dad Rene was the first of team Schack to arrive on thursday afternoon. He quickly got the tent set up and the bike inspected before the rest of the family arrived, so his son could focus on racing.
The task was simple, just one good run over just 200 meters, to get ahead of Jolink, to widen the gap. But much more difficult as it sounds. Fredrick suffered wheelspin, and started drifting to the left side of the track, then went off throttle, and stopped the clock at 5.80 seconds.
Just like in Vandel, Fredrick got some help from Sweden to push Herman down in the list, as all three active racers showed up again, and in good shape. Stefan Andre was hoping for a "four second pass", but shot off with a 5.01. (picture below).
Jan Malmberg ran well on his dual supercharged V-twin, despite his tyre getting out of shape and did 5.11 in his first attempt.
Mats Larssen got the turbo Harley working well, and it produced a loud bang as he left the startline.
He did 5.6, good for place #4 after round one.
Herman Jolink stayed ahead of Mats with 5.43, but knew he could do better as he was not happy with the way he shifted the Ducati through the gears.
Still good for place #3 and ahead of Schack after round one.
Harry van Schie from Holland gets "thumbs up" from his mechanic Jaap...
...but they could not really compete this season on the blown ex-Heezen Harley, as they still looking for the proper set-up of the fuel injected bike.
And so is Peter Niklas from Germany.
His Honda motor was not runnig well, but at least he made it to the end of the track.
Kirsten Hegre represented Norway, but she was not very succesfull.
She started at place #8 and dropped one place every round. She's in Svein Olav Rolfstad's team, with two bikes running on nitromethane. More about that team later.
Chris van Nimmen from Belgium made a powerfull burnout, and left strong, but a chain tensioner snapped at the startline, and the drive chain came off, so not on the list, and some repair work for his team.
Anders Jensen from Denmark runs a supercharged V-twin in a frame that was build by our former champion Jesper Thiel. The gearbox has been in the bike of Due Ulholm, the first rider from Denmark to ever compete in the euroserie of our class.
So a lot of history in the bike and a result of 6.0 after his first attempt. And just like in Vandel, Jesse James Bohn came to race with us.
Here's the list after round one.
Bernd Foit from Germany accidentally switched off his bike after the start in round one, and heavily burned his clutch at his second attemp.
We did not see him at the track on sunday.
John Hansen, also from Germany, almost lost controle of his bike in round two:
Stefan Andre did an almost exact copy of his first run, and did not improve.
Chris van Nimmen had repair, and made some agjustments to the clutch, and did 5.614, just a little to less to pass Mats Larsson, but looking forward to pick up valuable points for the championship. Chris has an outlook on the third place, as Frank Heitmann was unfortunately not able to come to Denmark to compete.
Fredrick Schack tried to launch, but noticed the bike was not shifted into the first gear, but in the neutral position. He lost valuable time, as the clock was already ticking.
But still Fredrick did a nice straight pass, that gave some confidence for the next round.
So the pressure was on Fredrik to set a good time at what turned out to be the last attempt he got. The weather on saturday morning spoiled half a day of fun, but in the afternoon it had dried up, and all the clouds had been blown away.
John Hansen was more then a second quicker then the day before, and went up two places in the list. Then Bohn, Jensen, Malmberg, Hegre and van Nimmen tried, but could not set a better time then they already had done.
Fredrick Schack goes quick when he needs to, we saw that at some race in the past, and that was exactly what he did:
4.95sec. and 224 Kmh (with a strong head wind) was enough to take the lead, and widen the gap with Jolink with another 175 points.
Then came Peter Niklas to the startline, he improved about half a second, then Herman Jolink...
...who stayed 0.02 seconds away from a better result, then came Mats Larsson who had some problems with the motor.
Stefan Andre had a bad start, the rest of his pass was smooth, and he got a great end speed. But was not able to set a better time.
Neither was Harry van Schie, who was the last topgasser to run.
Final results:
With one more race to go, Schack is stronger in the lead in the Euroserie championship, but he still needs to go to the last race, in Hoskovice, Cz and qualify, to be absolutely certain of the title.
Chris van Nimmen just passed Frank Heitmann, so they will have to battle a bit longer. And Herman Jolink is always at his best at that track, so some hard racing is expected at the last race of the season (see date below).
